#506 - Zungueira Leadership 🎤/ 🎬

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Zungueira leadership is a concept that comes from observing the behavior of Zungueiras (Angolan women who are street vendors) who wake up at the crack of dawn, put their basin on their heads, and walk through their community in search of customers so they can earn an honest living. They spend all day under the sun, subject to everything, but do not give up their great goal, which is to seek support for the child that is on their back and others who stayed at home. Most of them have given up on themselves but never on the hope of creating a brighter future for their family. As a result of their hard work and perseverance, they guarantee their children's education, and that makes them exclaim with pride as they pat themselves on the back screaming: "I’m a Zungueira, but I provided an education for my children who are Doctors today!"  Zungueiras are a symbol of struggle, determination, resilience and faith. They support one another, share their problems, protect one another, help one another and carry with them a high sense of survival instinct, for they know that failure is not an option.  This session will look closely at this concept and the tenets of Zungueira leadership.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: (1) Describe how Zungueiras are a symbol of struggle, determination, resilience and faith; (2) Describe the tenets of this approach (support one another, share problems, protect, help one another, sense of survival, failure is not an option); (3) Discuss the role of ethics in this model.
