Maria Cristina Barbero is leading the Project Management Center of Excellence of Engineering, the largest Italian group of IT Services (www.eng.it). In this role she launched an internal project to review the company's processes and procedures related to project management and agile practices, taking inspiration from the evolution of standards for project management at both PMI and ISO. The main aim is to be able to face today’s global markets’ new challenges. She is often consulting on topics related to creating, managing, and improving project management offices in large organizations. She holds the PMO Global alliance's PMO-CP certification since 2018 and she is a committee judge in the international PMO Global Award contest. Prior experience includes working for Olivetti, Unicredit Group and for The Italian Cooperation in Zimbabwe. The main projects she supported are in the banking / insurance industry, in public administration, and in telco. Ms. Barbero is actively involved as a volunteer at PMI and is a member of the PMI HQ Standards Insight Team. She also supports Italian chapters in several ways. She is part of the Italian UNI (local ISO organization) project management working group and she has been a speaker at PMI EMEA and North America congresses since 2010 on topics such as virtual PMOs, agile tools, linear scheduling, hybrid scheduling, ISO 21500 impacts, and others. She graduated with a degree in mathematics and holds an MBA in global management from the University of Phoenix. She has consolidated experience with IT and SW projects in all industries. She is a trainer and a professor of project management at the University of Padova.
